Changelings

The shapeshifter race that staffs Hump Town's brothels, and secretly its guard. Unlike doppelgangers (who sculpt themselves like clay), changelings shift into a generic version of any race they've physically touched, then tweak the appearance from there: “dressing up stock photos.” Crucially they gain some abilities of the race they wear. Regular crawler-changelings shift once per ten minutes, but true changelings like Mordecai and the prostitute Juice Box shift on demand, making a level-17 changeling as dangerous as the worst thing she's ever touched. Mordecai: be polite to all of them.

Book 4 appearances

• Chapter 5 — Mordecai explains the race using Juice Box and warns the team to respect every prostitute in town.
• Chapter 6 — The Changeling Principals guarding city hall are a cultish sect of the race.
