Item · debuts Book 3, Chapter 1 — “The Iron Tangle”
Train Conductor’s Souvenir Hat
The dumb floor-start souvenir that is secretly the way out
A worthless-looking souvenir cap handed to every crawler the instant the Iron Tangle begins, via the “I’m on a Train! / Choo Choo, Motherfucker” achievement. For most of the floor it’s a joke. Then Carl’s analyze skill reveals it is a genuine subspace-portal key: equip it, ride any line to the end, and you pass cleanly through the pass-through portal, escaping the rail maze (and landing, unfortunately, in a trainyard packed with thousands of zombies). The hats become a black-market lifeline; crawlers who sold theirs are left stranded.
Book 3 appearances
- Chapter 1 — Awarded to every crawler at floor start through the “Choo Choo, Motherfucker” achievement: a dumb souvenir nobody thinks twice about.
- Chapter 15 — Carl’s analyze cracks the floor’s escape secret: the stupid souvenir hat is itself a valid portal key. Equip it, ride to the end of the line, and you pass through.
- Chapter 20 — The hats turn into a tradeable lifeline: over 150 of Bautista’s group sold theirs and are now stranded, forced to march 50 km to the abyss on foot.
