Gurkha Hat

Wide-brimmed, camel-coloured hats meant to sit at an angle on the head, issued to the whole crew as part of Donut's Elite Gurkha Warrior class. On a mercenary each one raises several melee-fighting skills by three levels; Donut's own version raises hers by five, and with no time to drain it into her tiara she leaves it sitting on a pillow instead. The hats refit themselves to whoever receives one: Bigs's arrives the size of a thimble and perches on an eyestalk, Jamal's reshapes strangely to fit a shark's head, and Samantha's brim makes it impossible for her to roll properly, which she decides she does not care about. Rosetta wears hers with a glittering red gown while riding a bear down the parade route.

Book 8 appearances

• Chapter 89 — Donut scoffs at the safe-room mailbox and then squeals over a wide-brimmed brown hat pulled out of it, alongside her floor-prize spell book.
• Chapter 90 — Distributed across the crew with the rest of the Gurkha kit, refitting itself to a snail, a shark and an eyestalk; Donut's five-level version goes on a pillow rather than into her tiara for lack of time.
