Hungry Eyes Village

The town at the end of the tenth floor's first heat, appearing on the racers' GPS as a pair of dots beside the Finish Line. Dozens of roads pour in from every direction and converge under a black-and-white-chequered arch lit by sweeping spotlights, flanked by metallic bleachers that stand completely empty. Carl reasons that eighteen hundred simultaneous races cannot all fit through one arch and assumes something is folding the roads together. After each heat the teams teleport into private garages, and a bar in the village is where mercenaries are hired between races.

Book 8 appearances

• Chapter 5 — The village and the finish line appear on the GPS as the Royal Court leaves the cave; they cross the line in seventh place before empty bleachers.
• Chapter 6 — The truck teleports to a driveway and garage in the village, where Hedy explains that mercenaries are hired from a bar out in town.
• Chapter 8 — Carl notes that Imani and Elle are already out in the town while he is still weighing whether the garage is secure enough for his engineering table.
