Character · debuts Book 8, Chapter 49 — “Mehmet Or, and the Half-Pipes”
Joel
Camel mercenary · killed at the One Fine Pig garage
One of the three bat-swinging camels from the garage next to Team One Fine Pig. He jumps onto the hood of the Tigrans' vehicle to smash the windshield, and when the shield snaps back on he is thrown into the top of the garage doorway hard enough to break his neck, dead before he lands. Carl asks Princess Donut to collect the body along with his own dead mercenaries. Two chapters later Carl pulls the large corpse out inside Satan's Water Park, gives his name, and has Donut raise him with Second Chance to take the wheel once the clockwork drivers time out.
Book 8 appearances
- Chapter 45 — Unnamed here: the camel who climbs onto the APV hood and is killed instantly when the shield reactivates. His two friends drag the body away, then leave it outside their garage, and Carl asks Princess Donut to take it with the others.
- Chapter 49 — Named as the Bactrian who broke his neck at the One Fine Pig garage when Carl pulls him out as a backup driver. Donut casts Second Chance on him mid-crash and orders him to watch the clockwork Olga drive until she times out.
- Chapter 50 — The seven-foot undead camel is wedged into the driver's seat so Carl will not count as driving; Carl's hand goes clean through his chest adjusting the seat and he does not seem to mind, and he drives the truck onto the ice and through the finish before dissolving into dust when dismissed.
- Chapter 51 — Told to get out, the corpse agrees in a dejected rasp, opens the door and fades to dust before he can step down.
