Creature · debuts Book 8, Chapter 92 — “A Story in Five Parts, Four of Them Told”

Lamashtu the Donkey

Level 125 · a mortal, subjugated god pressed into service as a parade mount

An enormous donkey — bigger than Sweety — decked out in yellow-and-blue parade regalia: a circular flower-covered blanket, an ornate headdress a Vegas showgirl would recognise, and tack glittering with what look like thousands of rhinestones. Her feet are the giveaway: not hooves but clawed talons like a crow's, and above her head hangs a sigil Carl has never seen before, the red curve of a closed eye. The examine text calls her a mortal, subjugated god whose subjugator's name is redacted — then the System AI drops the redaction to brag that it did this itself. Stripped of worshippers, her level has been halved and most of her powers are gone under the Ascendency rules; she stays alive only as long as her subjugator does, and would be halved again if he were subjugated rather than killed. The AI kept her for two reasons: it wanted a mount for its grand master, and it wanted every god watching the broadcast to see one of their own carrying a bard in a tuxedo. Samantha recognises her instantly as her friend Lammy, and is baffled that she is letting anyone ride her at all.
