Mordecai's Moon Reaper Form
Mordecai's tenth-floor body: a hooded, robed reaper with unnaturally long arms and desiccated undead hands, floating a foot off the ground and towering over Carl, listed by the System as a level 50 Moon Reaper and Manager of Princess Donut. Moon Reapers are janitor mobs out of Sheol assigned to the fifteenth floor, spirit creatures with a corporeal form that even the princes of hell fear; the System warns against removing their hoods or provoking them, and lists Jaunt sickness among their gaze attacks. Under the hood is not a skull but an enormous burning eyeball. The form keeps failing — he flickers through his old Canadian body, a scraggly black-and-white cat, an otter and a slug before settling — because, as he admits, a shadow mimic wearing a Moon Reaper is an impossible combination.
Book 8 appearances
- Chapter 7 — Carl finds him floating in the middle of the safe room with a cup of tea, examines him, and gets the reaper's gaze attack for his trouble; Rosetta reports the glitch fires each time a new race first comes near him.
- Chapter 8 — Still in the form the next morning, with wisps of smoke rising out of the hood while he identifies the Crupper of the Benevolent Champion.
