The Nebulars

A cross-species cult, not a race, marked by their hats, who worship the entity that runs the center system (the System AI) and hold strange apocalyptic beliefs. They were the hat-wearing audience at the mock card-battle arena, and on Floor 6 they gunned for Prepotente in the Hunting Grounds until Carl and Donut helped wipe their hunters out; they've nursed the grudge since. On Floor 8 they sponsor and patron Sister Ines, raising her Word Weaver spell to level 15, and, Carl deduces, deliberately tipping her fragile mind back over the edge so she'll fanatically block the stairs, weaponizing her growing demon-charm power against him.

Book 6 appearances

• Chapter 55 — The announcers reveal the Nebulars raised Sister Ines’s Word Weaver charm to level 15: powerful enough to enslave a level-125 boss.
• Chapter 60 — Carl works out they likely re-broke Sister Ines’s mind on purpose, turning her into a fanatical stairwell-blocker who grows stronger with every demon that appears.
• Chapter 64 — Mordecai’s dossier: they worship the galaxy’s one stable, personality-less inner-system AI, call replicating it blasphemy, and preach eradicating every crawl-hosting world, and they also sponsor the goddess Ysalte.
