Paz Lo

Crawler #8,199,454, Level 45: a friendly, gap-toothed Human Santero (a necromancer-cleric heavy on healing and protection magic) who clanks everywhere in head-to-toe silver plate on platform boots. Anton's cousin and the cheerful counterweight to his grimness, he worships Ogun. His signature move is Turtle: he collapses into a giant metal shell that grants a powerful temporary shield and pulls all aggro, but roots him in place, unable to move or attack until the timer runs out (if the shield breaks early he takes the overflow damage but is freed). When it ends he rises swinging a beer-keg-headed mace twice his own length. As he puts it, “mostly I just curl up on the ground and let the bad guys hit me.”

Book 6 appearances

• Chapter 5 — Debuts as the cheerful armored Santero of the trio: Anton’s cousin and an Ogun worshipper.
• Chapter 14 — Struck with a Terrified debuff in the gauntlet and carried by Bomo after shedding his magically heavy breastplate.
• Chapter 15 — Tries to repair Legba’s shrine (against Carl’s plan) but is struck by Asojano’s goop and marked with Ogun’s “Inevitable” smite for failing to fix Ogun’s own shrine: an unhealable death-bleed.
• Chapter 16 — Dying, he warns Carl about Sister Ines’s charm and her past as a convent poisoner, then refuses further potions; she flags him into a common card.
• Chapter 56 — Sister Ines summons him as a low-rank totem and orders his self-destruct; the boss snake crushes him and he dissipates into dust when she Flees.
• Chapter 68 — Ysalte summons a buffed version of him as one of her totems.
• Chapter 69 — From inside the goddess’s own deck he drives Katia’s Bolt of Ophiotaurus into her eye and self-detonates, slaying Ysalte and becoming “the God Predator,” marked for death by all gods.
• Chapter 72 — Carl rips his card free at last, honoring the plea Paz made when Sister Ines first summoned him as a totem: “No more.”
