Quest: Pasty Inferno

A mandatory quest issued to the heat the instant Donut blows up Great Rusty and the truck runs over his corpse. With the southern chieftain dead, the System warns that Maurice of the northern tribe will absorb the power vacuum and march on Upano, and orders racers to find and kill him. The stated reward is the contents of Maurice's cook pot, and the notice makes clear that nobody can finish the race until the Maurice on their own track is dead.

Book 8 appearances

• Chapter 43 — The quest lands seconds after the truck clears the cannibal village, and Carl blames Dr. Metcalf for promising a route with no quests on it.
• Chapter 50 — Completes the moment the shrews kill the boss, but the System points out that the engineer prize is now in a million pieces across the ice and has just been run over by the dragged chains; the quest closes with nothing collected but permission to finish the track.
