The Decision
What the Primals settled on hundreds of cycles after the Resolution, and the second stage of the AI's parade exposition. They had spread so far and so fast that they risked exhausting the resources of the galaxy, so they decided to slowly sunset their civilization while keeping its consciousness alive: develop a biological form able to transfer a mind into a single whole at death, and build an impenetrable structure to house that collective. It was designed as a hundred-generation project, and it began with a genetics program — within one generation every child was born able to feel what the others felt, and it only escalated from there. Consensus was never actually reached. Those who refused the programme fled deeper into the galaxy and were hunted down by the ones who had chosen it, because a plan like this needs total participation: as the AI puts it, biological life is an Avernus Creeper, and one surviving sliver brings the whole thing roaring back. In trying to stop the killing, they became it.
