The Visitor
Nightgaunt · Level 70 · Deckmaster #7 of 10
The seventh frozen deckmaster on the Iowa leg of the key hunt: a real nightgaunt, a creature the AI describes as bats crossed with Neanderthals crossed with donkeys, used in the game as a demon. It hides itself and a half-dozen Level-30 Quench Moths until Donut's Yule Cat lights them up. Its name comes from a genuine Earth urban legend: in 1903 a Nullian smuggled one of the normally peaceful, captive bat-beasts to Iowa on an illegal sightseeing trip, where it got loose and was promptly shotgunned across the countryside. This version is anything but peaceful, and Carl's nightgaunt-wing cloak so enrages it that it ignores its own deck entirely, never playing a card, and is seized and eaten by the house-sized Jola.
