The Arena (Floor 11)
Where the yellow-brick road ends. The entrance is a single white metal door on a scale built for something the size of Godzilla, with a jumbotron mounted above it that carried the parade and then carried Carl's face. Inside is a wide-open field the size of a dozen football fields, floored in tightly packed dirt, with a towering white tree hundreds of feet high standing dead centre and Krakaren Prime coiled at its crown. Thousands of monsters teleport in one by one and start fighting each other before the crawlers are through the door; the surviving stand-ins are hunted across the open ground in their masks, so the dirt is already running red. Bleachers stand in smoky shadow, filled to capacity with horribles who are not really there, sitting in silent witness. The System's welcome is three lines long: this is the Arena, the entrances to the twelfth floor open on the death of the floor boss, and there are two choices to be made about the stand-ins.
Book 8 appearances
- Chapter 91 — Donut spots it from the top of the float at the far end of the parade route and reports that it is huge and the masked crowd runs all the way to it.
- Chapter 92 — As the procession slows, the shape inside resolves — a tree with a tentacled monstrosity at the top — and a jumbotron over the entrance cuts between Grigori, the floats and the bound spectators.
- Chapter 93 — The crawlers spread out before the white door, drive in as it opens, and find the field already filling with teleporting mobs, hunted stand-ins and bleachers of silent horribles; the System's welcome sets the terms of the boss fight.
- Chapter 94 — Scolopendra materialises here and starts coiling up the white tree, snapping it like a twig, while Krakaren rains green mist from above and every ordinary mob in the arena backs away.
