Notification · debuts Book 8, Chapter 68 — “Bad News, and a Drunk Announcement”

Cascadia's Last-Two-Heats Announcement

Dungeon-wide announcement · the endgame rules

The floor-wide broadcast that sets the terms of the endgame, delivered by Cascadia rather than Zev, audibly drunk and openly past caring whether anyone lives. Two races remain and they run back to back. The seventh heat takes three teams at a time and only the winner survives it. Anyone unwilling to race it can reach an Outreach Guild between the sixth and seventh heats, but a team that loses a member to a deal still has to run with whoever is left, driver included. This will be the first level to carry a floor boss. She refuses to read out the material the AI gave her about the eleventh floor, on the grounds that she wants it to kill her, then gives away the one detail anyway: the whole floor is capped at three hours. The rest is bubbles blown into the microphone, insults aimed at the crawlers, a monologue at her dead husband and about ten seconds of sobbing before the mic cuts.
