Enchanted Pauper’s Ring of the Steadfast Emberus
In a flashback, Carl trades his very first dungeon ring to an Emberus-worshipping satyr jeweler inside Club Vanquisher, who re-forges it in bubbling lava on a one-million-gold, “interest-free” loan from the Temple of Emberus (10,000 down, the rest owed to the shrine). Disguised as a plain Strength ring, it removes most health-seeping and disease debuffs and numbs others, bought specifically to fight his escalating slug condition, but is overwhelmed if too many debuffs stack at once. The fine print is the trap: it cannot be sold while the debt stands, losing it accelerates the loan, Carl may no longer renounce Emberus while in debt, and a non-worshipper who wears it is cursed with every debuff suffered by anyone within 50 meters. The deal earns him the “Columbia House” achievement: a lesson in lunging for the dangled carrot.
