Pater Coal
High Cleric Supreme of Emberus inside Club Vanquisher: a white-haired Gandalf-by-way-of-hobbit non-combatant (a Hobbledehoy: a generic “small human,” proportionally shrunk, all ego and temper) who rescues Carl from the lisping door-guard Potsy and ushers him to the secret Temple of the Ending Sun. There, performing a foot-washing “sacrament” that blocks the other gods from eavesdropping, he reveals himself to be the System AI itself, speaking through the NPC. In that guise he advances Emberus's god-quests: find who murdered Emberus's son Geyrun, kill the prime suspect Hellik before the twelfth floor, and untangle why Katia's crossbow and Donut's oak bracelet are threads of the mystery (unlockable only with a rival crawler's memorial crystal). He licks Carl's toe mid-sacrament, then grants him the Martyr's Path boon.
