The Murder of Geyrun
The god-storyline Carl inherits as an Acolyte of Emberus, advanced on Floor 8 by the AI-piloted cleric Pater Coal. Emberus's son Geyrun was murdered; his orphaned two-headed puppy Orthrus (the dog Carl loosed from the Nothing back on Floor 5) survived but remembers nothing useful. Carl carries two quests: identify the killer before he leaves the dungeon, and kill the chief suspect Hellik (Emberus's own twin) before the twelfth floor. Hellik claims an alibi, and Emberus now fears his own mother, the Oak Mother Apito, may also be dead, since a memorial crystal bearing her name exists even though she lives. The AI insists Katia's crossbow and Donut's oak bracelet are buried clues, but neither can be read without the memorial crystal another crawler (Osvaldo) is carrying. Carl suspects the System is force-fitting throwaway third-floor loot into an epic, or that it has been building this from the start.
