Creature · debuts Book 8, Chapter 20 — “Prison Pocket and Party Foul”
Prison Pocket
Macropus Dominus · Level 170 Province Boss
The gatekeeper squatting in the middle of the left road, about twenty feet tall and wide, furred but ridged with spikes down its back, with a heavy tail, long clawed fingers and a broad lizard-like face that reminds Carl of Slit. The System explains that Macropus Dominus males of the harsher regions carry pouches too, that Prison Pocket and Party Foul both lost their joeys to the endless storm, and that crawlers happen to be joey-sized. About ten small heads hang from his pouch, all dead but one, and the pouch lining secretes an oil caustic to anything not of his species. No vehicle may pass him until he is dead or removed.
Book 8 appearances
- Chapter 20 — Carl examines the boss blocking the left road and gets Prison Pocket's readout: a level 170 gatekeeper, one of two grieving males looking to refill an empty pouch with crawlers. One of the heads in his pouch is alive and belongs to an Upgrade Engineer in a kangaroo suit.
- Chapter 21 — Blocks the Heat Two road, pouching gremlins and eating joeys to top his health back up, until Carl rides the pouch down in a joey skin and blows two satchels at the bottom of it.
- Chapter 22 — Named as the province boss Carl was credited with doing 95% of the damage to; most of the other road blockers that heat were only city bosses.
