The Vulgar Temple

One of two places Samantha names where a memorial crystal can be seated in a plinth to bring its occupant back for good — the other being the Basilica, the main temple and bottom floor of Club Vanquisher, which doubles as part of the machinery of the Ascendency battles. When she restates the choice she calls the pair the Halls of the Ascendency or Sheol, and later puts the two options on the fifteenth or the twelfth floor, which places the Vulgar Temple in Sheol. Carl has heard a little about the Basilica and nothing whatsoever about this. It matters because Britney Proskurina now carries Ysalte's crystal, and Samantha is openly curious about whether the procedure even works on a broken one.

• Chapter 83 — Samantha names the Basilica or the Vulgar Temple as the places Britney must reach to seat Ysalte's memorial crystal in a plinth, then restates them as the Halls of the Ascendency or Sheol; Carl has never heard of the second one.
• Chapter 85 — Carl relays Samantha's narrowed version to the group — Britney needs the fifteenth or the twelfth floor to activate the broken crystal she is carrying — moments before Britney jumps into the casino portal.
