The Karaoke Brawl
Dwight the unicorn, drunk and convinced Carl and Donut had the gremlin DJ killed, puts his horn through her face at the moment the music starts, and the bar goes up. His thrown corpse hits Yuto instead of its target, the Oni's answering punch destroys a scarecrow, and the Yokai, the surviving scarecrows and the Bleak Congregation's skeletons all pile in while Carl and Donut sing through it — with the DJ dead, there is no second attempt. Because every team wiped in the bar means another crawler-on-crawler heat, the party spends the song protecting people it would rather kill: Dong Quixote clears the stage with his nickel sock until a mantis tears it open, Donut's magic missile turns a Draconian's axe away from his skull and her Ice Slick scatters the dance floor, Imani knocks the dogpiled unicorn unconscious, and Louis and Britney put out the fire a fairy's stray fireball started in the stage curtain. Carl finishes with a burning gauge and permanent access to the Stage Performance Guild; Donut, knocked into by the paralyzed Dekoki on her final line, gets FAILED.

- Chapter 56 — The bar is the fullest Carl has seen it and the music has just started when Dwight stabs the DJ in the face with his horn.
- Chapter 57 — Half the crowd dances and half beats each other senseless while Carl and Donut sing the whole song through thrown bottles, a burning curtain and a ceiling fire; the party fights to keep the brawlers alive because every team wiped means another crawler-on-crawler heat.
