The Sandcastle (Land Quadrant)
The Mad Dune Mage’s fortress · guards the necropolis drain
The Land Quadrant’s “castle”: a three-story sand fortress hunched against the necropolis wall, built around the tomb’s main drainage tunnel. There are two ways to take it. The easy way, Gwen’s plan, turns (or electrifies) a drainage wheel and hoses the whole castle to mud, but melts the mage and loses the winding box. The hard way, Katia’s plan, clips lightning-rod cables to two towers so a sandstorm bolt electrifies the door, opening a glass hallway for two hours. Inside, everything was transmuted to cloudy, frozen glass, a research castle caught mid-instant, with the sand-ooze boss living in the basement lab beside the mage.
Book 4 appearances
- Chapter 20 — Gwen’s team breaches its walls; Katia rigs the lightning-rod entry and stalls Gwen’s flood plan until Carl returns.
- Chapter 21 — The trio enters the glass interior (frozen fountains, a glass Lika statue) and finds the mage’s basement lab.
- Chapter 22 — Collapses as the ooze dies; Tran half-opens the drain and the whole castle washes into the water quadrant.
