The Big Six
A Story Time aside delivered mid-ambush, which the System AI itself calls completely arbitrary and more of a handy guide than anything else: the six groups now vying for control of the dungeon and for survival. One, the crawlers, which it counts as including former crawlers like Herot and Forkith. Two, the standard NPCs, mostly working together, with splinter groups such as Hamed's ill-advised revolution for the early indentured; it flags in the same breath that Juice Box was dumped in Sheol and that Carl keeps failing to notice that Reaper Spider Minions could carry her a message. Three, the gods — the most fractured and, in the AI's telling, the dumbest and most despised group, unaware their game is about to be turned upside down. Four, the sapient mobs: the Shadow Mimics, the Ogre Imperium, non-deity boss monsters like Krakaren Prime, and the War Mages, none of whom will ever work with each other. Five, the demons of Sheol, wild cards and possibly the most organised, though Sheol is a closed system the AI cannot see into. Six is withheld — survive this fight, reach the eleventh floor, and you will meet them. The AI explicitly refuses to count the god-driving tourists or Syndicate security, comparing them to the rats on the first floor.
Book 8 appearances
- Chapter 86 — The System AI stops the ambush to introduce the Shadow Mimics as one of the true bad guys and then lists all six factions fighting over the dungeon, holding the sixth back until the eleventh floor and dismissing the tourists and Syndicate security as vermin.
