Herot

A skink and former crawler, named by Akuma as the crawler who wrote the sixteenth edition of The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook and as the one who worked out how the dungeon reuses its mobs. With Menerva they took charge of building the seventeenth floor and hid the Pineapple Cabaret behind it, sacrificing any chance of getting out to make somewhere NPCs and mobs could escape to. Tipid, who watched their season as a game guide, remembers a thorn in the showrunners' side with a permanent crowd of NPCs around them, and tells Carl to trust the little lizard.

Book 8 appearances

• Chapter 38 — Akuma names them as the skink behind the Worn Path Method and one of the two crawlers who built the Cabaret; the news that the sixteenth-edition author is still alive stops Carl breathing.
• Chapter 39 — Rosetta does not react to the name, since Herot came after her in the cookbook, but Tipid vouches for them and tells Carl to get a channel open to them directly.
• Chapter 55 — Herot turns out to be why the Cleaner Bot upgrade vanished from the shop: he holds a standing order on every unit that appears. He is not backstage with Menerva's NPCs but trapped on the far side of the portal, inside the Pineapple Cabaret, with limited control over that world and a working shop interface. The plan doubles as a test of a theory of his.
• Chapter 61 — Herot is the buyer on the far end, expected to purchase the listed bot and empty Li Na out inside the Cabaret; he also cannot re-list a dungeon upgrade for thirty days, so the bot is gone for good.
• Chapter 79 — Herot, working from inside the Pineapple Cabaret, had access to the holding area the broken Nothing's portal would empty into, and would be the one pulling people back out of it.
• Chapter 80 — With the race about to start Carl had one more idea and asked Pontiff to carry a message to Herot as a just-in-case.
• Chapter 83 — The whole plan hangs on Herot pulling the stored crawlers out of the catchall area and holding the god-worshippers in stasis until the Ascendency battles strip their gods of power. Carl's stated reason for trusting them: Herot is a cookbook author.
• Chapter 86 — The AI counts former crawlers inside the crawler group, naming Herot and Forkith as examples.
