Item · debuts Book 8, Chapter 30 — “Starting Blocks”
Dorota
Smart Companion Royal Pet Throne · Ultimate Diamond Pampered Pet Princess edition
Donut's new passenger seat in the food truck, a real product from out in the universe that Rosetta says was going viral shortly before she came to Earth. It looks like an ordinary bucket seat until its assigned princess sits in it, at which point a small fluffy bed unfolds, the whole thing gimbals like a gyro to keep her safe in a crash, and it starts monitoring her vitals and offering relief nobody has yet defined. It also talks, agreeing with everything Donut says and complimenting her at random, and it feeds her snacks on demand. Donut had its creepy default voice changed to a woman with a Polish accent, named it Dorota, and thereby gave Dr. Metcalf a nemesis.
Book 8 appearances
- Chapter 30 — Introduced on the grid: it compliments Donut's fur, trades threats with Dr. Metcalf, and Carl notes he has no idea why she named it Dorota.
- Chapter 31 — Offers Donut a calming massage in the middle of a thirty-degree descent, which is what finally persuades Dr. Metcalf to put music on.
- Chapter 32 — Multiple arms whip out of the seat to tear a facehugging sugar hermit off Donut's face and shred it, and later the belt holds her so tightly she has to claw free to reach the pedal.
- Chapter 50 — Complains loudly through the seat-shuffle, then grows Donut her special princess basket once she has the passenger seat to herself.
- Chapter 62 — Advises Donut that anyone making her uncomfortable is best cut out of her life, then warns Dr. Metcalf that all his negativity will make his hair shed prematurely — and gets a death threat for it.
- Chapter 64 — Calls for her princess to get back in her seat while the action figures are coming through the shield.
- Chapter 73 — She straps Donut in, takes exception to the way the new hologram is looking at the princess, and is cut off mid-sentence when Dr. Metcalf drops her into diagnostics mode. She comes back with the seat belts working and her voice still switched off, which Carl decides may make the upgrade worth something after all.
- Chapter 80 — Donut rode the final heat firmly ensconced in Dorota, who was still muted — Dr. Metcalf's attitude had softened with her upgrades, but she would not remove the gag.
- Chapter 82 — With nobody in the truck able to work a manual window, Donut's chair unhooked herself, put out an arm, grasped the handle and rolled it down.
