Denial of Service Missiles

Rosetta's idea and a cousin of the crew's potion balls: warheads that are not designed to explode at all. Each impact sets off a chemical reaction that throws a thick mucus membrane over a wide area, blinding a shielded vehicle rather than damaging it, and Mordecai reckoned the sludge would foul team Sparkles' vines and slow them to a crawl if they dropped the shield to get clear. Carl marks targets before the start and fires all eight straight up out of the back of the moving truck in Heat Three; three of the four aimed at Sparkles land, while the four sent at One Fine Pig burst early and slime half the field.

• Chapter 30 — Carl marks the One Fine Pig gunner and his machine gun with two apiece and programs the remaining four, timing the arcs against the ninety-second starting block shield.
• Chapter 31 — Fired skyward out of the back door; three corkscrew down onto team Sparkles' vine and coat its purple shield in green goo until the bush spins off the road blind.
• Chapter 32 — Chiyome reports the volley aimed at One Fine Pig went off too early and slimed everyone nearby, Onikuma included.
• Chapter 50 — Florin fires one at the vehicle riding his tail; team Sparkles' vine comes down on fire and glazed with goo.
